Career Advancement Accounts For Military Spouse Education and Training

There are a number of accredited institutions in the country that offer educational and training courses to military spouses under the CAA (Career Advancement Accounts) that funds the educational expenses of military spouses of active duty military personnel under the Military Spouse Career Advancement Initiative.

The CAA program is geared to provide military spouses with portable career opportunities. A ‘portable career’ is one that has a credential which is recognized in several states and for which job opportunities can be found across the nation. A number of ‘high demand occupations’ that exist in several ‘high growth industries’ for military spouses have been identified by the Department of Defense and the Department of Labor. These are selected high growth industries, which are expected to add a large number of jobs to the economy. These are industries that offer the widest scope in portable careers.

The high demand occupations within these industries are growing at a pace much faster than average creating high employee demand.

Five industries have been identified by the government and categorizes as ‘hi-growth’. These include Financial Services, Health Care, Information Technology, Construction and Education.

Given below is a list of portable careers under each separate category. The list is not exhaustive but provides a fair idea of available job opportunities for qualified military spouses and is important from the point of eligibility for funding under Career Advancement Accounts. Any occupation under these industries is eligible for CAA funding.

Financial Services:- Credit Analyst, Claims Adjusters, Bookkeeping, Accounting and Auditing Clerks, Bank Teller, Tax preparer etc.

Health Care:- Dental Hygienist, Radiology Technician, Practical/Vocational Nurse, Pharmacy Technician etc.

Information Technology:- Database Administrator, Data Communications Analyst, Computer Support Specialist etc.

Construction:- Pipe fitters, Steamfitters, HVAC mechanics and Installers, etc.

Education:- Teacher’s Aide/Assistant, Child Care Worker etc.

Some occupations outside the above industries but falling under the CAA ‘in-demand occupations’ are also eligible for CAA funding support.

Air Force Education and Training

Joining the Air Force provides a wealth of educational opportunities. In addition to the training and education provided by the Air Force during service, many options outside of the military become available. After completing an Associate’s degree with the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF), airmen have a vast number of Bachelor’s programs open to them, which can lead to advanced degrees. Officers likewise have the ability to proceed on to a Master’s or even Doctoral program. For both, Tuition Assistance (TA) helps obtain a degree while still serving, while the GI Bill provides maximal benefits when used after separation.

When furthering your Air Force education and training, military-friendly schools can also be helpful for other reasons. They are accustomed to student deployments, and are more likely to have policies in place to handle unexpected orders. They are also more likely to be used to an older student population, with students who may work full-time or have families. Meanwhile, military students are very unlikely to encounter any sort of hostility related to their service, and are likely to find a welcoming atmosphere in student discussions. Distance education options are also especially valuable to students who seek to further their Air Force education and training. Taking courses online allows airmen and officers to continue their education despite PCS moves. Although this will not be an option for everyone, some students have even been able to continue coursework while deployed.

Prospective students who are new to online education should not let this deter them. A good online university will make its courses and procedures straightforward, and will be willing to answer questions when asked. Many officers who earned their degrees from brick-and-mortar institutions have found the transition to online education easy. Meanwhile, those who have taken courses through CCAF will already be comfortable with online learning. Prospective students should remember that online courses require students to take more initiative, and that finding the time to study or complete assignments may not be as easy as it sounds. However, the qualities that serve airmen and officers well in the service will also translate well into educational endeavors.

Although finding and completing the right degree or certificate program is no small challenge, the benefits it can add to your Air Force education and training are worth the effort. Further education can mean a promotion, a better position, or a better civilian career upon separation. Therefore, prospective students should seriously consider their educational options.

A High Quality Training for Vocational Education and Training System Through AQTF

People now recognized the importance of having high quality training and assessment services for those who are clients of Australia’s vocational education and training system. Conditions and standards are now being given as an initial registration of new training providers which also strengthen the requirements for those of ongoing registrations which include stronger financial viability and protection conditions. AQTF or Australian Quality Training Framework usually includes quality indicators that are designed to provide information about a Registered Training Organization performance. There are three indicators which are learner engagement, employer satisfaction and competency completion.

In order for a training organization to be registered, they must apply in the area where the organization has its head office. An individual who is in the position to influence the management of a registered training organization in any possible way should meet the individual characteristics and past behavior standards in order to gain the fit and proper requirement that is required in a person. This can be achieved by registering in the AQTF standards. There are a lot of test that is being given in order to prove whether an individual is qualified or not. If ever a person fails to meet the requirements that are being given, this may cause an impact with regards to the suitability of the individual to contribute in the delivery of education and training. These requirements may include the past criminal convictions of a person, a history of personal bankruptcy and many more.

The AVETMISS compliance or otherwise known as the Australian Vocational Education Training Management Information Statistical Standard provides a national data that ensures the consistent and accurate capture of VET information about the students, their courses and the qualifications that are completed. In addition, it provides answers about students in the VET system with regards to their identities, where they study and what they study. The applicants for initial registration do not usually have any performance history.

Applicants can however be assessed for financial viability and government risks which is based on the assumptions that are underlying their financial projections, their proposed organizational model and business plans. Furthermore, these risk indicators are assessed to determine an initial rating which will determine the level of future monitoring.
